Nominations for the 98th Annual Academy Awards

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has just finished announcing their nominations for the 98th Annual Academy Awards, with a new record being set by Ryan Coogler's "Sinners," leading the pack with an astonishing 16 nominations, followed by Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another" with 13. As usual, there wer plenty of unfortunate surprises this morning, including the complete shut-out of "Wicked: For Good," which was expected to garner Ariana Grande another nod for Supporting Actress, with the film also predicted to do well in the tech categories. Another very unfortunate snub was Paul Mescal for his incredible performance in "Hamnet," which was also shockingly snubbed for Cinematography and Film Editing. With these unfortunate mistakes, it would appear as though Anderson's critically-lauded flick will have no trouble crossing the finish line to take Best Picture, but I suppose we can always hope for a miracle.
