X-Men: Apocalypse Comes to Digital HD September 9th and Blu-ray/DVD October 4th

When "X-Men: Apocalypse" was unleashed into theaters just a couple of months ago, it was met with a rather severe backlash from both fans and critics alike, both of whom noted that the once flourishing franchise appeared to be running out of steam already (I noted similar issues in my own review of the film). However, there were those that enjoyed the film nonetheless for the action-packed popcorn flick that it ended up being. Sometimes that's all that people want in a big-budget actioner, and it has to be said that, if nothing else, "Apocalypse" brought plenty of spectacle with it.

Today, Twentieth Century Fox has announced that the film will be coming to Digital HD on September 9th, followed by a Blu-ray/DVD release of October 4th. They've also announced that the special features will be as follows:

  • Deleted/Extended Scenes with Optional Introductions by Bryan Singer

  • Gag Reel

  • Wrap Party Video

  • Hour long documentary, X-Men: Apocalypse Unearthed

  • Audio Commentary by Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg

  • Concept Art and Photo Gallery

Regardless of the film not working out as well as expected, this looks like a rather interesting batch of extras, particularly what sounds like an hour-long "making of" and the commentary from the director and writer. If the pair's commentary track from the previous installment is any indication, it should prove to be most informative. As for the deleted and extended scenes, we've heard a little from Singer as to what was left out of the theatrical cut (including a trip through an '80s mall), so they should make for intriguing viewing.

All-in-all, this is shaping up to be a fine home release of the film, so if you were one of its fans, then you should definitely mark the release date on your calendar.
