The Show:

From the very start, "The Boys" has been one of the wildest, craziest, and most insane shows on television, using its unique & intriguing storyline to give us a rather different look at superheroes. Throw in a fascinating ensemble of eccentric characters, plenty of over-the-top action, and a hefty dose of dark humor throughout, and it becomes easy to see why it has remained so popular over its impressive run thus far. As it heads into its fourth season, it certainly has a lot to live up to, but just based on what we've gotten in the previous three seasons, there seems little reason to doubt that the folks behind this chaotic show will only continue to try and outdo themselves.

At the start, "The Boys" (Butcher (Karl Urban), M.M. (Laz Alonso), Hughie (Jack Quaid), Serge (Tomer Capone), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara)) are tasked with assassinating Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), a closeted superhero who is running for Vice President as part of a plan arranged by Homelander (Antony Starr). However, the plan fails when they are discovered and attacked by her daughter Zoe, who has been injected with Compound V, the same substance that has given Butcher only six months left to live.

Meanwhile, Homelander decides to shake up his team by recruiting Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), the smartest woman in the world, not only for her intelligence, but also for her honesty. He then proceeds with the plan to turn people against Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and her supporters by sparking a riot after the announcement of his not guilty verdict, with A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) subsequently placing the bodies of three Homelander supporters, killed by his team, in the fray and laying the blame on the other side. With this, and some friction between Butcher & M.M. after the former reveals his diagnosis, their already-difficult mission to stop Homelander's plot only becomes harder, but when an unlikely ally shows a willingness to help, it turns out that they may still have a shot after all.

"The Boys" is indeed a show that flies high on a wave of insanity, which makes it rather pleasing to report that its fourth season is no exception. The various threads of the storyline remain quite compelling, unpredictable, and highly-entertaining, with its cast of colorful characters being just as much so. This season alone has us wondering if our heroes will be able to stop what Homelander and his team have planned, how much longer Butcher is going to be around to help prevent it, whose loyalties are going to change next, what side Homelander's son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) will ultimately end up on, and so much more, once more giving us another eight episodes that seem to fly by rather quickly.

Of course, these come complete with all of the intense action & over-the-top violence that we've come to expect from the series, but as always, it only serves to make the show even more engaging & exciting as the two sides continue to struggle for supremacy. As usual, the stunt team knocks it out of the park, making it no surprise that Stunt Coordinator John Koyama, who won an Emmy for the previous season, is up for one yet again, with a few members of the team also being up for one of their own. All of their hard work & dedication go a long way towards making this the wild show that it is, so it's wonderful to see that they once again deliver the goods.

By the end of these eight episodes, we've been taken on yet another crazy ride, through the ups & downs of the various characters, all of which brings us to its gripping cliffhanger finale that sets it up for what's likely to be a hell of a final season. If you've been a fan of it up until now, this latest season gives you everything you could possibly want from it, and then some. With its intriguing tapestry of storylines, fascinating characters, and plenty of exciting action along the way, "The Boys: Season Four" certainly doesn't disappoint and will leave fans eagerly wanting more as its approaches its highly-anticipated end, where we'll ultimately see if these folks can somehow surpass the insanity they've delighted audiences with for the past several years.
