Film Nominations for the 27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

The Screen Actors Guild has just finished announcing their nominees for 2020, and as usual, we were thrown a few curveballs this morning. In a rather wild year, we've ended up with a four-way-tie for the lead in nominations, with "Da 5 Bloods," "Minari," "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," and "The Trial of the Chicago 7" all earning three nods.

The biggest surprises here are Helena Zengel for "News of the World," who replaces one of the assumed top picks Amanda Seyfried for "Mank." Also making another surprise appearance here is Jared Leto for his performance in the much-maligned "The Little Things". As far as snubs go, we once again see Paul Raci missing for his excellent turn in "Sound of Metal," and another snub for Delroy Lindo in "Da 5 Bloods," both of whom missed at the Golden Globes yesterday.

Aside from that, not much else in the way of shocking nominations. The frontrunners are all here, and most of the others were well within the realm of possibility. This year, it seems like a very open race for the top prize. "Chicago 7" has already received numerous Cast awards, so that would be my guess, but "Ma Rainey" has also received a lot of notice for its cast.

We'll just have to wait until the ceremony on April 4th to find out who the big winners are. In the meantime, please see below for a list of the SAG nominees for film:
