Nominations for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards

Joaquin Phoenix in "Joker"

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just finished announcing the nominations for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards, and, you guessed it, there are plenty of shocking surprises to be found.

Leading the pack is Todd Phillips' "Joker" with 11 nominations. It was followed closely by Sam Mendes' "1917," Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood," and Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman" with ten nods each.

The biggest shocks include seeing Jennifer Lopez snubbed from the Supporting Actress category for "Hustlers," "Apollo 11" inexplicably left out of the Documentary Feature category, Taron Egerton getting snubbed for Lead Actor for "Rocketman," and seeing "1917" make it into the Original Screenplay category (perhaps a sign of how strong the film is?).

Other than that, there wasn't much else that was particularly surprising, with mostly the expected nominees showing up this morning. The funny thing is, there's not really a clear frontrunner at the moment. "Parasite" has been dominating the critics awards, but "1917" and "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" were victorious at the Golden Globes ("Parasite" was not eligible for Best Picture, but lost its other major categories), with the latter recently having a great night at the Critics' Choice Awards. We'll just have to wait for the guilds to lay it all out in the coming weeks to see which films they favor.

The 92nd Annual Academy Awards will take place on February 9th, so be sure to check back to see who the big winners are. In the meantime, please see below for a complete list of this morning's Oscar nominations:
