The First Trailer for Captain Marvel Has Arrived

After months and months of waiting, and a tease of a few images recently, Marvel has finally dropped the first trailer for "Captain Marvel," and in typical fashion, it looks like it's going to be a heck of a thrill ride.

Described as an origin story for Carol Danvers, who becomes the titular Captain Marvel during a galactic war, the film is easily among the most anticipated of next year. Personally, I'm really looking forward to this one because I know absolutely nothing of the character, so in a sense, it will be a fresh and new comic book experience among all of the other flicks that feature the more familiar characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Aside from that, there's that incredible cast to look forward to, which is headlined by Academy Award winner Brie Larson. Also included are Oscar nominees Annette Bening, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, and Djimon Hounsou, as well as Ben Mendelsohn and Clark Gregg.

What's particularly intriguing are Marvel's choices to write and helm the project, with the film being written by Anna Boden and directed by Boden and Ryan Fleck, both of whom brought us small films like "Mississippi Grind," "It's Kind of a Funny Story," and "Half Nelson." These aren't exactly films you would associate with something on a scale like a Marvel flick, but when you think about it, Taika Waititi and the Russo Bros. hadn't done anything particularly big before they helmed their entries, and those turned out great, so clearly Marvel knows what to look for in their crew.

We still have a long time to wait before the film is finally release (about six months), but it looks like it's going to be worth the wait, and at long last, we'll finally have the answer as to where Captain Marvel was during the insanity of "Avengers: Infinity War."

"Captain Marvel" arrives in theaters on March 8th, 2019.
