Ready Player One Comes to Digital HD July 3rd and Blu-ray/DVD July 24th

One of the more pleasantly surprising offerings so far this year was Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Ernest Cline's young adult novel, "Ready Player One," which follows a young man and his friends as they race for control of a popular virtual reality environment. The film was visually striking, and while it differed considerably from Cline's excellent novel, it still told the story in an entertaining and exciting fashion, earning praise from critics and audiences.

Today, Warner Bros. has announced the upcoming home releases of the film, revealing that it will first come to Digital HD on July 3rd, followed by the Blu-ray/DVD release on July 24th.

The following special features have been announced as well:

· Game Changer: Cracking the Code

· Effects for a Brave New World

· Level Up: Sound for the Future

· High Score: Endgame

· Ernie & Tye's Excellent Adventure

· The '80’s: You’re The Inspiration (The DVD release will only includes this featurette.)

As one would hope, it looks like we'll be getting several "Making of" featurettes that show how Spielberg and co. brought this incredible world to life. It's a little disappointing not to have a commentary from the man himself, but you have to figure that he'll be featured prominently in many of these extras.

Those dates again are July 3rd for Digital HD and July 24th for Blu-ray/DVD, so if you enjoyed this fun retro flick, be sure to take note.
