As I've mentioned before, it's no secret that the DCEU has been having a lot of trouble getting itself off the ground, with "Man of Steel," "Suicide Squad," and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" receiving lackluster reviews from both critics and audiences alike. The recent "Wonder Woman" finally saw a film of the series garner some acclaim, with many claiming it to be the best film out of the four (though, to be honest, that wasn't a very high bar to reach, nor was the film quite as great as it was made out to be).
Now all eyes are fixed on the next entry in the ever-expanding universe, "Justice League," which is set to unite all of the popular heroes, including Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher), against the evil Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds). The footage we've seen thus far certainly makes the film look flashy, and the new trailer straight out of Comic-Con is no exception, even going so far as to reveal the villain for the first time.
However, should we even bother getting our hopes up? After all, the previous films have done a rather poor job of developing characters, even when they concentrate on just a few, so what should we expect from a film that focuses on several? Combine this with the facts that the screenplay was written by Chris Terrio, the same screenwriter behind "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and the rather disparaging problem of the film having to undergo extensive reshoots (all on top of the trailers giving the perception that the film is nothing but an action-filled mess), and it's easy to see why even the most loyal DC fan would hesitate.
Looking on the bright side, the reshoots are being done under the close supervision of Joss Whedon, who has shown his extraordinary skill for superhero films with "The Avengers" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron," so perhaps all will turn out well in the end.
We'll just have to wait until the final product is released on November 17th to find out. Until then, take a look at the new trailer above and let us know what you think in the comments below!
