For the past couple of weeks, we've been hearing some pretty positive reactions to the latest "Spider-Man" flick, but the review embargo has officially broken today, giving us a better look at what critics have to say about the film so far. If these early reviews are any indication, it looks as though the franchise might finally be back on track after struggling to deliver a decent adventure for the famed web-slinger for the past three films. At the time of this article, there are 37 reviews posted with only three being negative, giving the film a 92% and a 7.7/10. Here's just a small sample of what's being said:
"That the movie comes off as loose and sweet and light on its feet as it is feels like sort of minor Marvel miracle." - Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly (B+)
"Spider-Man: Homecoming is a soaring superhero adventure and is easily the best Spider-Man movie of them all." - Kyle Anderson, Nerdist (4/5)
"It's the best homecoming imaginable." - Brian Orndorf, Blu-ray.com (A)
"Spider-Man: Homecoming works as both a (very) funny high school comedy/drama and strong standalone superhero movie set in the MCU." - Sandy Schaefer, ScreenRant (4/5)
"News Flash: Tom Holland is the best movie Spider-Man ever. He finds the kid inside the famous red onesie and brings out the kid in even the most hardened filmgoer." - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone (3/4)
"One of the very best Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and one of the best films of the year." - Alan Cerny, ComingSoon.net (9.5/10)
It certainly sounds like they've finally hit the mark, with many saying it's easily the best in the series since the great "Spider-Man 2" (though, honestly, it's not a hard bar to clear given the films that came after) and others saying it's the best MCU film period. Tom Holland proved to be a rather impressive Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War," and while his Spider-Man was a little iffy, it's easy enough to give him the benefit of the doubt. Audiences only have another week to wait, so we'll soon see if the public opinion matches up with the critics when "Spider-Man: Homecoming" hits theaters on July 7th.
