The Saga Continues as The First Trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi Finally Arrives

It seems like we've been waiting an eternity for it to finally happen, but at last the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" has finally been unleashed, giving us a good look at what to expect from the next entry of the long-running franchise.

While plot details are obviously still being kept under wraps, we know that most of the characters from "The Force Awakens" will be returning, including Daisy Ridley as Rey, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, and the late Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa. As to what we can guess about the storyline (at least those of us who haven't tried to dig up every spoiler available) is that it will more than likely involve Rey undergoing Jedi training and eventually re-teaming with her fellow rebels to take on the First Order once again.

Hopefully this time around the film will feature a breath of fresh air from writer/director Rian Johnson, for while "The Force Awakens" had been an enjoyable film for the most part, what it was sorely lacking was originality (most have been able to admit that it was a straight-up remake of "A New Hope"). With someone at the helm like Johnson, who has given us several original works throughout his career like "Looper," "Brick," and "The Brothers Bloom," I think it's safe to assume that this next entry will have a few more surprises up its sleeve than what we got before.

We still have a while to go before we find out though, eight more long months to be exact, but with all of the other big releases coming out this year ("Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2," "Wonder Woman, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," "Justice League," etc.), we'll have plenty to tide us over before we get there, putting it right on top of us before we even know it.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" opens in theaters on December 15th, 2017.
