At long last, the full trailer for Andres Muschietti's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's "It" has finally been unleashed to the public after premiering at the SWSW festival a few weeks ago. Luckily, the wait was well worth it as it looks like it's going to be a rather thrilling film.
Most will be familiar with the previous adaptation, a miniseries from 1990 in which Tim Curry played the lead role of Pennywise the Clown, a nightmarish creature that preys upon the children of the small town of Derry, Maine. It wasn't a particularly good adaptation, with many complaining that the ending was downright ridiculous, but there was no denying that Curry was very effective when it came to delivering chills.
This time around, we have the relatively unknown Bill Skarsgard ("Hemlock Grove," "Allegient") taking on the role of Pennywise, and while we don't really get to see him in action very much in this first trailer, it certainly looks as though they've come up with a frightening new look for the character (which we've gotten plenty of glimpses of over the past few months).
We still have about five more months until the film comes out, so at this point, we can only hope that the wait will once again be worth it. We've already heard that Stephen King has given his seal of approval after seeing an early cut of the film, so perhaps we can go ahead and get our hopes up that this might indeed be the next great horror film that fans of the genre have been waiting for.
"It" arrives in theaters on September 8th, 2017.
