Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just announced that Clint Eastwood's latest film, "Sully," will be coming to Digital HD on December 6th and Blu-ray/DVD on December 20th.
The film, which tells of heroic pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and his infamous landing on the Hudson River that saved the lives of all 155 passengers, received a fair amount of critical praise (RT: 83%, 7.2/10; Metacritic: 74) and is even thought to be a potential awards contender in the coming months.
It certainly looks as though it could be an interesting film. Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks is almost always dependable in whatever role he decides to take on, and having an ensemble that includes Aaron Eckhart ("Thank you for Smoking," "The Dark Knight") and Oscar nominee Laura Linney ("The Truman Show," "Kinsey") certainly doesn't hurt. However, when it comes to Clint Eastwood's films of late, it's been a rather disappointing streak that's included "American Sniper," "Jersey Boys," J. Edgar," and "Hereafter." After so many letdowns, it would be great to see him deliver a film that lives up to some of the great work he's done before.
As for special features, the following is to be included:
- Sully Sullenberger: The Man Behind the Miracle The “Miracle on the Hudson” didn’t happen by chance. The difference between disaster and deliverance rested on the character of the man with his hands on the controls.
- Moment by Moment: Averting Disaster on the Hudson Captain Sullenberger, Co-Pilot Jeff Skiles and air traffic controller Patrick Harten take us step-by-step through the 208 harrowing seconds of Flight 1549, revealing how the wrong decision at any point would have resulted in disaster.
-Neck Deep in the Hudson: Shooting Sully Director Clint Eastwood and producers Frank Marshall and Allyn Stewart reveal how Flight 1549’s terrifying splashdown in the Hudson River was captured on film, shooting on the Hudson itself as well as in Universal’s historic Fall’s Lake, where parts of “Jaws” were filmed.
It doesn't look like we'll be getting very much in the way of extras, but at least we'll get a little history and a look behind the scenes at the making of the film.
Those dates again are December 6th for Digital HD and December 20th for Blu-ray/DVD, so if the story behind this incredible real-life event interests you, then be sure to take note.
