Wolverine Returns in the First Trailer for Logan

Another big project that fans have been eager to get a glimpse of is James Mangold's "Logan," the third entry in the solo Wolverine films that spun off from the "X-Men" franchise. Well, the long wait is finally over as the first trailer finally dropped today, giving us our first look at what will hopefully be a strong conclusion for the series (reportedly it's the final outing for our adamantium-clawed hero).

The Wolverine series hasn't exactly been what one would call "good," starting with the disappointing "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in 2009 and continuing with the curiously dull "The Wolverine" in 2013. With the titular mutant being such a popular character and the plethora of storylines available to tell, it doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to put together a solo film that works in his favor, but strangely enough, the writers behind the first two entries just weren't able to crack it. Will relatively-unknown screenwriters David James Kelly and Michael Green finally be the ones to deliver a story worthy of the infamous character?

To give us a small hint, here's a brief synopsis:

Set in the future of 2024, Logan and Professor Charles Xavier must cope with the loss of the X-Men when a corporation lead by Nathaniel Essex is destroying the world leaving it to destruction, with Logan's healing abilities slowly fading away and Xavier's Alzheimer's forcing him to forget. Logan must defeat Nathaniel Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney, a female clone of Wolverine.

It certainly sounds like it could be an intriguing story, and from the looks of the trailer, things are shaping up rather nicely. Supposedly we can expect plenty of action, but if you recall, that didn't do much to help the first two entries. As always, this is going to come down to how well written it is, and I, for one, really hope that they can pull it off this time, for if this is truly going to be Wolverine's last solo outing, then he deserves to go out on a high note.

"Logan," starring Hugh Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Sienna Novikov arrives in theaters on March 3rd, 2017.
