The First Trailer for Morten Tyldum's Passengers Finally Arrives

Morten Tyldum's upcoming science-fiction project "Passengers" is easily one of the most anticipated films for the remainder of 2016, and while we've seen a number of production stills and teaser posters, it took until today to finally get a full trailer for the film, which is due to be released in just two months.

For those unfamiliar with the film's plot, here's a synopsis to get you caught up:

On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.

The trailer looks impressive to say the least, and with the amount of talent involved, it would be rather shocking if the film turned out to be anything other than spectacular. For starters, it stars Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence ("Silver Linings Playbook," "American Hustle") and Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Her"), along with Michael Sheen ("The Queen," "Frost/Nixon") and Academy Award nominee Laurence Fishburne ("What's Love Got to Do with It?," "The Matrix"). Add on to that the fact that it's directed by Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum ("The Imitation Game," "Headhunters") and you have a very impressive lineup of names indeed.

The film is to be released on December 21st, giving it a prime spot right in the middle of awards season. Perhaps Columbia Pictures believes themselves to have something quite special on their hands that could get a little Oscar attention? That certainly appears to be the buzz surrounding the film at the moment, but with it skipping all of the major festivals, it looks like we won't know much of anything until it begins to screen for critics groups for consideration in their year-end accolades.

This trailer certainly has me excited for the film, but how about you? Does this look like it could be the next great science-fiction epic? Let us know in the comments below!
