by Jeff BeckAug 26, 2016Lights Out Comes to Digital HD October 11th and Blu-ray/DVD October 25th One of the better horror offerings of recent months was the surprise hit and critically-favored "Lights Out," which tells the story of a supernatural being that preys upon a family from the shadows. The film was a pleasant surprise, offering up a few good scares, all while putting an age-old premise to good use. To quote my review from last month: “Lights Out” ends up being a good example of taking an oft-used premise and turning it into something that’s highly effective. Today, Warner Bros has announced the home release of the film, stating that it will first come to Digital HD on October 11th, followed by the Blu-ray/DVD release on October 25th. Unfortunately, the only special featured that's listed is a selection of deleted scenes. It's not surprising that there would be some given that the film ran under 80 minutes without credits, and they'll certainly be interesting to see, but this seems like a missed opportunity to include some fascinating behind the scenes featurettes about the making of the film. I would have loved to see something about how they brought the character of Diana to life on screen, and how they filmed the actresses scenes on the set. At the very least there should have been a commentary from director David F. Sandberg to detail how the film was made, but apparently such extras were not deemed interesting enough to include. Those dates again are October 11th for Digital HD and October 25th for Blu-ray/DVD, so if you were one of the horror fans that found this to be as big a surprise as most others, then be sure to take note.
