Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Gets Its First TV Spot

As if you needed another reminder that we have a "Star Wars" spinoff film coming out in the next few months, Disney has unveiled the first TV spot for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which tells the tale of the Rebels' mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.

There's not much in the way of new footage (if any at all) to be found in the brief 30 seconds, but it doesn't make it any less exciting to see the same footage from the previous trailers. I was one of the few who thought that the recent "The Force Awakens" was merely ok due to it not containing much in the way of originality, but this is a story that has yet to be told, meaning I'm very much looking forward to seeing what new elements it has to offer the "Star Wars" universe.

As with the last "Star Wars" film, I'm hoping to go in knowing as little about it as possible, so the fact that the trailers and spots have looked amazing so far, and yet have revealed very little about what we're going to be seeing, is a very welcome strategy. There are sure to be lots of surprises, hidden references, and probably a few cameos (this does take place during the original trilogy after all), so it'll be quite interesting to see just where writer Chris Weitz ("Cinderella") and director Gareth Edwards ("Godzilla") take it.

Do you think this has a chance of doing nearly as well as "The Force Awakens" (critically and commercially)? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" when it hits theaters on December 16th, 2016.
