Explore the Visual Effects of Game of Thrones with These Season Six Breakdowns

This past season, "Game of Thrones" once again dazzled us with its incredible special effects, especially when it came to the spectacular final episode. Just in case you were wondering how such complex shots were put together, a fascinating series of VFX breakdowns has been released by Rising Sun Pictures, detailing the multiple layers that went into every effects shot.

In the brief, three-minute video, we see how several of the backgrounds were literally pieced together, in addition to how the explosion at the Great Sept was pulled off. It's a must-watch for any fan of the show, or for anyone who's interested in seeing all of the hard work that goes into creating such amazing effects for every episode.

I love these videos because they really do a great job of showing how there are a million little details that go into each and every shot, at times making them look like incredibly complex LEGO sets that have a multitude of pieces that have to go in very specific spots. Displace one little piece, and the entire shot would be ruined, but do it perfectly and you have something that will knock your socks off like the explosion at the Sept, which shocked millions of viewers just a few weeks ago.

As a reminder, "Game of Thrones" will return later than usual next year and will only be seven episodes long as we come closer and closer to the end of the series. Also, "Game of Thrones: The Complete Sixth Season" will be released on Blu-ray/DVD on November 15th, far earlier than we're used to getting the latest season, and if you're a fan, be sure to root for the show when it squares off for Emmy gold on September 18th.
