First Trailer for Sherlock: Season Four Premieres at Comic-Con

I was one of those viewers who was very late getting into BBC's "Sherlock," but when I finally gave it a chance, I blew right through all three seasons that were available at the time in just a couple of weeks. Like everyone else, I was on the edge of my seat at the end of season three's mysterious finale, which left us with the possibility that Holmes' nemesis, Dr. Moriarty, is still alive and ready to cause trouble once again. One thing's for sure, it's certainly made the waiting period between seasons seem even longer this time around. True, we had a kind of placeholder with "The Abominable Bride," which was excellent in its own right, but I think most of us are ready to get back to the main story that we were left with last season.

In anticipation of the show's return, the first trailer for season four was unveiled at Comic-Con today, and I think it's fair to say that it looks as intriguing as ever. The stakes appear to be very high as Holmes and Watson race to find out the solution to the mystery, meaning we can probably be prepared to occupy the edges of our seats once more.

Like the other trailers we've gotten at the con so far, it doesn't reveal very much, but nor should it. A great part of these mysteries has been diving into them and not knowing anything about them before hand, allowing us to follow the deductions every step of the way and be genuinly shocked at all of the surprises right along with our heroes. If anything, I'm sure we can expect plenty of those in the coming season.

"Sherlock," starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, returns to the BBC in 2017.
